Sometimes The Weatherman Knows Best

On the weather portion of the late night news on Wednesday night,  the meteorologist told me "to get out and do something fun outdoors tomorrow, because the day was going to be GOR JUS!"
So, the next morning I considerately waited until 7:00 a.m. before I shook Ross awake.  I answered his,  "wha? huh? what's the matter?" questions with:
"Nothing is the matter.  It's just that we have to go on a ferry ride today."
"Why?" he sleepily wanted to know.  "Why do we have to go on a ferry ride?"
After I explained that Bill Evans gave the order, and that we should absolutely listen to Bill Evans, he said, "Oh, in that case, let's go."
I checked the schedules and found that the next ferry would be leaving at 9:30.  The ferry is The Cape May- Lewes Ferry.  We would be leaving from Cape May NJ and going across the Delaware Bay to Lewes, Delaware.
We left the house at 8:20.  Lillian, the GPS lady, said we would be getting to our destination at 9:37.  Now a driver, such as myself, one who always obeys the speed limit, would have accepted that there was no way we would be able to make the 9:30 ferry.  There was another ferry leaving at 11:00, we would just get on that one.
But I wasn't driving, Ross was.
So, a little background info is in order here.  A couple of years ago, in order to reduce the number of points he had accumulated on his license, Ross had to attend the "I Will Not Speed Ever Again Training Course."  And let's just say that he probably needs a refresher course.
Now, normally I would have been constantly reminding Ross that Smokey is out and about, probably looking for him.   But, since I really wanted to make that 9:30 ferry, I found myself encouraging his lead foot and in fact I cheered him on for each minute he gained on Lillian's original ETA.
We pulled into the terminal at 9:25 and I believe we were the last car to board.

Yay Ross!  You did it!
As I was taking this picture Ross yelled up to the crowd,  "Okay everyone wave.  Smile.  Say cheese."
And they did. :)

I thought I spotted a hawk and its nest on top of that tower thing.

Yep, there she is.

After disembarking, we decided to have breakfast in Rehoboth Beach.  The ladies at the info center recommended the Crystal Restaurant.  Now, if it were Saturday we Ross could have hung around for the dance which apparently is held upstairs at Crystal's.

Oh, another other cool thing, (well, Ross thought it was cool) that the Information ladies told us about was an app we could use for the parking meters.  First, Ross downloaded  the app.  Then he registered his name, address, credit card, and license plate number.  Each of the parking meters had a bar code to use in conjunction with the app. So he scanned the barcode into his phone and then entered the amount of time we would be parked.  The app charged the credit card and sent an alert 15 minutes before the time on the meter ran out.

After we parked and scanned, we walked up to the beach and strolled the boardwalk.

Not exactly the Jersey Shore, no rides or sausage and peppers, but they did have Kohr's frozen custard.

Rest Stop

The Beach
All that fresh air must have really tired me out because I passed up the outlet shopping.
   It was time to go.

Bye to Lewes

 Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse
I thought I spotted another hawk and nest on top of the lighthouse

Yep, there she is.

Bill Evans was right.
It was a
 Gor Jus Day!

I have created a page for Anna's Diary.  It can be found under the Tab titled Anna's Diary.
I have posted all of the entries to date there, starting with January 1, 1929.

Here are the catch up days from Anna’s Diary:

Thurs. May 30, 1929
Hot all day. Memorial Day.  Went to 360 for Mother and father.  Visited all grave of family and friends.  Home early.  Very long day and everyone away.
Friday May, 31 1929
Still Hot.
Home all day.  Too warm to venture out in the sun.  Gave Junior a bath to cool him off.

Memoranda:
Went with Flo and Jean to see Mary Pickford in ”Coquette”.  I cried dreadfully and made me sick all night.  Bad effect on me.  Brought back all my grief and trouble.
[I thought I could get a clue about what happened to Anna’s husband by reading a synopsis of the plot of this movie.  The connection could just be the death of the main character’s husband.  Click here for the movie plot.]

Sat. June 1, 1929
We have a new landlord.  A Mr. G. Hope he will too more .  Promised new awnings.  Went to Union with Jewel and Judge and Mrs. Sweeney to help plans for decorations of new house.

  2. One of these years I want to see the Jersey shore!  Your boardwalk photo is fascinating to me.  I have only seen one boardwalk on the west coast - in Santa Cruz - and it is attached to an amusement park.  As always , nice photos!  I hope to add a lot to my photo library collection this summer.

  4. Sometimes the weather men are right! They are not popular in my part of the country right now....we need rain, and they keep teasing us with 20 and 30 percent chances. We're mad! Looks like a wonderful day! Love the boardwalk, the lighthouse and the hawk's nest! Thank you for sharing your day!
