A to Z April 2019 Blog Challenge - The Letter D - My Brother Ray's Theory

It's April - That means I will be participating in the A to Z Blog Challenge.

I will be posting six days a week for the month of April - (with a rest day on Sunday).
Each post will begin with the corresponding letter of the alphabet beginning with A and finishing with the letter Z.

I began participating in this challenge in 2012.   With the exception of last year, I believe I completed the challenge each year.   Last year I lost steam somewhere around the letter W.

Discussion

Yesterday was dinner at my sister's house.   There were eight of us around the table.  Five of the eight are related by blood.   One aunt, three siblings, three in-laws and one child/nephew.  The ages ranged from 79 to 29.  Five in their 70's, Two in their 60's and the twenty-nine year old.

Whenever this group gets together, the conversation is free flowing and continuous from soup to dessert.

Of course in these times, there are many topical subjects to be discussed.   Although the eight of us are generally politically aligned, for instance we all voted the same in the last election, there are definite shades of opinions.

For instance, yesterday the discussion turned to the "Me Too" movement.  I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say, two of us had to shout a little louder to make our points.  The interesting thing about this particular topic is that it ebbed and flowed and sort of became a running "theme" throughout.

But, one of my favorite subjects and one which inevitably always, always comes up is my brother Ray's theory of how "we", as in all of earth's population, came to be.

I'm not even sure I can give his theory a proper and decent explanation.     It has something to do with life outside of our universe, a broken off piece of an astroid carrying said life, hurtling through space until it crashes into our earth, thus starting the beginnings of life here.

Many years ago, when he first mentioned this to us, we grabbed onto it and razzed the heck out of him.

As the years have gone on, I think "Ray's Theory of Evolution"  is starting to sway a couple of us to his way of thinking.   That doesn't mean that we have let up on the needling, though.

Even though there were raised voices yesterday, and I will admit a table fist pound or two, at the end of the day, just like the dished that were cleared away from the table, so was the air with love and respect for one another.

  1. I love groups like this where you can discuss serious topics (and sometimes not so serious ones) and not hate each other by the end of it

    1. Although, it's not always the case in some families we are lucky enough to be able to distinguish between what matters most in our relationships and are always there for each other when it counts.

  2. Its cool you can get together like this, have a great discussion, lively at times, and part as "friends". I learned early in my marriage that was not the case around my in-laws.

    1. I can't say that we don't have issues some of the time, but at the end of the day we are there for each other when it counts most.

  3. The asteroid theory may have some merit. I don't know about outside the universe, but there are scientists who believe life evolved from microbial critters frozen on asteroids.
