Knitting Round & Round Until It Becomes a Hat

In the last couple of weeks I  have started a couple of knitting projects, but have not gotten very far.  I have a pair of socks and an afghan sitting on the needles.  I think I will frog the afghan.  I'm not sure about the marigold socks.
Tonight I started a hat.  I downloaded the free pattern from Ravelry.  The pattern is "The Rikke Hat" by Sarah Young.  The pattern instructions call for a "German Twist Cast-On".  I had to search on YouTube for instructions on that method.  I used the Knit Witch's instructions found here.
It took me quite a while to get the hang of the cast on.  I love that there are instructional videos for this stuff.  It's more effective for me to watch an instructional video rather than trying to figure out a diagram or still photos.
I recorded my project in my Ravlery library.  I hope to finish it by tomorrow.
As I began to knit around and around I soon became soothed by the repititive motion.
I miss my knitting.  It has been a steady companion and has helped me through some very hard times.

                                              My goal.

I have created a page for Anna's Diary.  It can be found under the Tab titled Anna's Diary.
I have posted all of the entries to date there, starting with January 1, 1929.

Here is today's entry form Anna's Diary:

Club met at Jule L's. We had a lovely time.  Her sister-in-law Marie came in. Belleville club met at night.  Won first prize.  Pair surtan pearl necklace.  [I couldn't find any information on what type of pearl necklace Anna wrote about.]

  1. I know what you mean about knitting. I need something constant in my ever-changing life lately......and I just haven't felt like knitting :(

I'll get there, just like you did.....and I might have to queue that hat....

  2. I figure a project like the hat is one that I can complete in a short amount of time.  This might be very encouraging.

  3. I always find that knitting is very therapeutic and soothing. It's something about creating something with your hands along with the repetitive motion of knitting. I hope you finish your hat soon and enjoy it!

  4. I can't do any kind of needle work.  I am always in awe of those who can. I should try again someday.  That hat looks so cool, I can't wait to see it done.

  5. I used to crochet in high school, but haven't messed with yarn at all since the kids were born. I often think of taking it up again, but I already feel like I don't spend enough time on writing (even though I DO spend a ridiculous amount of time some days) so I haven't yet. I guess it's another thing that will have to wait until retirement.

  6. Oh good luck! I loved watching my mother and grandmother crochet, and I used to be able to knit the most simplest of things. But ... what I'm really good at, is pricking my fingers with an embroidery needle.

  7. I am retired.  I think I got more done when I worked full time than I do now.   Schedules and deadlines have that effect.   But I do love not having to be or do.

  8. It is relaxing for some, frustrating for others.  At times it has been both for me.  What I like is the feeling of accomplishment at the end.  Also I love knitting for others.

  9. Embroidery is beautiful.   I used to do counted cross stitch.

  10. It is nice to have something soothing to do in hard times.  Normally, writing is my go-to, but not in hard times.  Annie is my go-to in hard times.

  11. I love this hat, it looks so cosy! Thanks for the links to the pattern and the video, I've never heard of that cast on before so I'll check it out later.  I've just been completely absorbed by Anna's diary - what a find! It's really interesting to read how people used to live.

  13. I love the rhythm of knitting. I sometimes use it as prayer time and talk to God about what's going on. Of course that doesn't happen when it;s a complicated pattern, only when it's stockinette!

  14. I'm frankly a little afraid of going without the schedules and deadlines--I have a feeling that if there isn't anywhere I HAVE to be, I will be hard pressed to change out of my pajamas some days.
